5.4.4 Email and text communications
Email and text communications count as electronic communications for the purposes of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and the electronic storage of this personal data is also covered by the Data Protection Act (see Section 5.3). A society should only email or text people who have consented to receive direct marketing materials from the society on the specific matters being addressed via the particular medium concerned. This applies to existing members, prospective members and supporters who have expressed an interest in a community share offer.
